Delayed speech and language ( DSL ) associated with

1. Hearing loss
  • Auditory training.
  • Vocabulary building to improve speech and language development.
  • Articulation correction ( to improve intelligibility of speech).
2. Mental retardation
  • To improve self help skills.
  • Behavioral modification to reduce hyperactivity.
  • Vocabulary building to improve speech and language development.
3. Autism
  • Interactive and creative play.
  • Behavioral modification to reduce hyper activity and to improve eye contact and attention span.
  • To improve socialization skills and social interaction.
  • Vocabulary building .
4. ADHD
  • Behavioral modification to reduce hyperactivity and to improve eye contact and attention span.
  • Improve vocabulary and social use of language ( Pragmatic skills).
5. Cerebral Palsy
  • Oromotor exercise to improve muscle strength.
  • Vocabulary building.
Clef lip / palate
  • To reduce hypernasality / to regulate oral air flow.
  • Articulation correction to improve intelligibility of speech.
Stuttering
  • To reduce rate of speech.
  • Effective counselling to improve self confidence and to avoid / overcome fear and anxiety.
  • To learn how to avoid or prevent suttering while speaking by making use of various techniques.
  • How to avoid / overcome situational fear.
Misarticulation
  • Improve intelligibility of speech by articulation correction ie. sounds difficult to be produced are taught.
Aphasia
  • Based on the type Aphasia ( Broca ‘s,  Wernicke’s,  Global,  Anomic etc. ) and its characteristics , Therapy is planned and carried out.
Dysarthria
  • Oromotor exercise to improve muscle strengths and to improve range of movement .
  • Improve speech intelligibility through articulatory skills .
DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY
The department of Psychology is primarily concerned with the assessment, diagnosis and management of various conditions like Autism, other Pervasive developmental disorders, Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Mental retardation, Learning disability, Anxiety disorders and Adjustment problem in children. Assessment is done with the help of standardized tools. Intelligence assessment is done using Vineland Social Maturity Scale ( VSMS ), Seguin Form board ( SFB ) and  Malin Intelligence Scale for Indian children ( MISIC ).
The focus of intervention is
1. Autism
  • Improving attention span and eye contact.
  • Developing sitting behavior.
  • Developing concepts.
  • Self identification and object identification.
  • Improving communication skills and social interaction.
2. ADHD
  • Improving attention span.
  • Reducing hyper activity.
  • Developing concepts.
3. MR
  • Improving social skills
  • Improving self help skills
  • Improving communication skills
  • Developing concepts
4. Learning disability
  • Ld retraining
5. Anxiety disorders
  • Behavior modification techniques
Parental counseling and child and adolescent Counselling is also provided.
DEPARTMENT OF AUDIOLOGY
Audiological tests
1. Pure Tone Audiometry ( PTA )
  • Helps to rule out type and degree of hearing lose .
  • In pta wide range of  frequencies (250 hz 8 Khz) are being tested .
2. Special Tests ( SISI & TDT )
  • Helps to find out the site of lesion.
3. Speech - Audiometry  ( SAL, SRT, SDT )
4. Impedance audiometry
  • Helps to rule out middle - ear status and function.
  • Provide information regarding middle - ear pressure, compliance and ear canal volume.
5. Oto Acoustic Emission ( OAE )
  • Helps to rule out cochlear function ( mainly outer hair cells function )
6. BSERA ( Brain Stem Evoked Response Audiometry)
  • Helps to provide information about degree if hearing loss in children / difficult to test patients.
  • To rule out site of lesion.
7. ASSR ( Auditory Steady State Response )
  • Helps to provide information about degree of hearing loss especially in children / difficult to test patients.
  • Frequency Specific threshold estimation is posssible.
  • Helps in providing apt amplification devices to children [ Intelligent Hearing Systems from USA ]
HEARING DEVICES
  • Hearing aid prescription.
  • Hearing aid trial ang fitting.
  • Dispensing of different models of heaing aids from pocket models to BTE , ITC ( IN -The Canal ) CIC ( Completely - In - the Canal ) of conventinal and digital hearing - aids.
  • Ear mould Lab ( Both hard and soft moulds ) Egger , Germany.
  • Fully equpped hearing aid servicing lab based on international standards. [ Egger , Germany ]
COCHLEAR IMPLATATION PROGRAMME
  • A Cochlear - Implant is a hearing prosthesis designed to restore or provide a level of auditory sensation to adults and children who have a severe to profound bilateral sensory - Neutral impairment and who gets limited benefit from hearing aids.
  • Councelling for CI
  • Facility for total audiological workup for CI
